One of my recent looks and probably one of my favorite ones of all times (also a nice one to wear for Valentine's Day I think :) ) |
Happy Birthday Beauty Marker! Yaaaay! I cannot believe it has already been a year I've been blogging. When I started I didn't expect it to go this far to be honest, but even though there are not many people visiting my blog at the moment I'm still enjoying it, and I'm glad I persisted in blogging at least for one year. For me this is my small personal achievement. I hope some of you enjoyed BM this year too and hopefully even more people will in the nearest future.
On that happy note, I want to apologize for the lack of posts in the past few weeks. My main job has been just crazy and very challenging in many ways recently taking most of my time and energy leaving almost no inspiration for blogging. I'm still struggling with how I'm going to find time for it in the future but I will do my best, and for now I just wanted to get this post out there to have a re-start :).
Ok. It's a new year and what can be better than to start a new year with new brushes, right? Exactly, I thought so too :). So I bought this new set from Real Techniques, the Nic's Picks Set, which you can buy either here or here for $29.99, and 2 individual brushes: the lash-brow groomer and the setting brush, which can be purchased from the same sites (iHerb.com or RealTechniques.com).

I'll say straight away that I think that the Nic's Picks set is the best one out of all sets they've come out with. I love their brushes and I've tried most of them, but in terms of sets I feel like the brushes in the sets were often times a hit and miss. Not because they are bad but because I personally wouldn't use them, or don't feel like they're needed in a particular set, or it's the other way round: some very needed brushes were missing in the set and it didn't feel complete. So, that said, I think that the Nic's Picks set is very well though out and really includes the brushes that are sufficient to do your whole face makeup.
This set is perfect for those, who want to buy their very first makeup brush set. It is perfect for beginners as it includes everything they need at first without being too big or overwhelming, or containing the brushes that are difficult or unnecessary to use. So for just $30 bucks you'll get 5 quality well-made soft multitasking budget-friendly cruelty-free brushes, with which you can do your whole face makeup not needing to use anything else. In this sense, this set is great for everybody, and not just makeup newbies. Professionals will appreciate its versatility and ease of use.
The cheek brush is just a joy to use. You can use it for foundation, contour, powder, blush, highlighter, basically anything on your face, be it in cream, liquid or powder form. It's got perfect shape and density for this. It's also very soft. The duo-fiber face brush is great for those finishing touches, when you don't want to use too much product; so it's perfect for pigmented blushes and highlighters, or if you're just heavy-handed with your powder products. The base shadow brush is their best eye brush in my opinion, I think they should sell it individually. It's a perfect alternative to the famous MAC 217 and can do it all on your eyes: application, crease work, blending, you name it. It's a definite hit. The other brush in the set, which is the angled shadow brush, is not really something I was initially thrilled about, but once you start using it, you get why it's so cool. It is perfect for applying and blending those transitional crease shades because it is slanted perfectly to do so (hooded-eyed beauties, this is perfect for you), also it's fluffy enough to blend at the same time, and its tip is great for applying the color more precisely in the outer or inner corners of your eye. And the eyeliner brush is obviously great for eyeliner but also for the brows. It's the perfect size and thickness, and is much much better than the brow brush from their Starter set (I always thought it was too wide and definitely too thick for any eye or eyebrow manipulations).
Since the brushes are synthetic you can easily use them with powders or creams, which is a great plus. The fact that they are very multi-purpose means you can use them for so many different things, even more than the obvious ones I've mentioned earlier. It's a very very nice set, indeed, probably the one I'd recommend to people buying their first brushes or wanting to have a nice travel set.
There is one more thing that makes these brushes so easy to love. They wash very nicely: quickly, no shedding or bleeding, dry super-fast and remain incredibly soft.
A few words on the other 2 brushes I bought: the lash-brow groomer and the setting brush. They are great, the lash-brow groomer is an unsung hero of my makeup application on a day-to-day basis, the setting brush is up to the quality of all the other RT brushes, so nothing bad I can say about those. They're great.
Overall, I'm very happy I got these brushes. I would totally recommend this set to anybody.
So here you go. This is my short update and a review of my newly purchased brushes. I hope you are having a great February and enjoying the last weeks of winter. Happy Valentine's day! May you always love and know that you are loved.
